Actress Tilda Swinton attends the “South Of The Border” Premiere at the Sala Grande during the 66th Venice Film Festival on September 7, 2009 in Venice, Italy.  Swinton couldn’t look more natural in this abbreviated khaki tuxedo outfit by Celine Resort 2010.  The actress was in fine form from the minute she landed in Venice for the Film Festival last week keeping a restrained color palette for her public appearances.

The previous night  Tilda attended the “Capitalism: A Love Story” premiere at the Sala Grande in a wool jersey dress by Lanvin.  Her ethereal pallor was tenfold with her new platinum hair color.  She wore an update of her trademark white suit for the Io Sono L’Amore photocall and a complimentary white sheath dress to the premiere that evening.  We are huge Tilda Swinton fans (well, I am) but I understand her taste isn’t always palatable.  What do you think of her choices this week?

Ombre, a dip-dye technique applied to fabric to graduate the color from light to dark has emerged as a runway trend. Thandie Newton and Tilda Swinton both wore ombre dresses with brightly multi-colored rainbow effect. Dita Von Teese and Salma Hayek wore ombre as a single color gradient. Which way do you prefer ombre used? Click here to see more.

Badge of Courage

Super couple; designer Zac Posen and actress Kate Mara depart the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5. No one couple embodies the spirit and thematic dedication the way Posen and Mara do, capturing the essence of the superhero in graphic primary colors. The other attendees were no slouches. While the theme for this year seemed jarring in concept, an overwhelming number of celebrities (or their stylists) embraced it with inventiveness. Tilda Swinton evokes super-heroism with a beaded orange badge and wicked hair pouffe. She wears a mask of alien glittery gold. Out of frame, are her perfectly clashing emerald green flats.

Witch From ‘Narnia’ Spanks Bob Dylan

Tilda Swinton’s ice-queen balls of steel beat out Cate Blanchett’s strung-out drag king for Best Supporting Actress, one of the biggest upsets at the 80th Annual Academy Awards. In reality though, none of the Supporting Actress nominees (except Saoirse Ronan) would have been a huge surprise, as all had significant momentum heading in. Amy Ryan had all the critics awards, Ruby Dee had the career angle and the SAG trophy, Blanchett had the buzz (and many of the awards), and Swinton had the upset vibe.

This is bittersweet. Blanchett really deserved it for that brooding physicality, but Swinton deserves an accolade like this. It’s nice to see a kooky British former Derek Jarman muse winning an Oscar. Also, her acceptance speech – fabulous. Any time Clooney is teased for Batman & Robin is a winning moment. And those eyes, those crazy EYES!
