Never one to be out dressed, Joanne Stefani Germanotta AKA “Lady GaGa” poses at the Interscope, Geffen, and  A&M Records Official American Music Awards After Party at Boulevard3.  For the last few months the singer has been appearing in this crystalled outfit, most likely designed by cohort Matt Williams.  The frosty theme takes a cue from the cover of her album, The Fame.  If only GaGa’s edgy sense made it’s way from her clothes into her music…

Janelle Monae performs on stage at the Sean John 10-Year Anniversary runway show at Macy’s in Lennox Square last week in Atlanta, Georgia.  This girl oozes quirky energy and displays impeccable taste at every turn.  She has been morphing old timey menswear (think Jerry Lee Lewis/tap dance/James Brown) into supremely cute, girlie outfits.  You know her from the video for “Morris Brown,” with Big Boi and Scar.  A unique performer fusing disparate genres, Monae has been releasing work under her own label, The Wondaland Arts Society in conjunction with Bad Boy Records.  Her full length album is due to be released in early 2009.  See Some of Janelle’s best looks here.

Sri Lankan songstress M.I.A was rumoured to have cancelled her summer tour due to pregnancy, and while performing on stage during the Diesel xXx Rock & Roll Circus at Pier 3 on October 11, 2008 in Brooklyn, New York the stories were more or less confirmed.  Look at that tummy!  31 year old Maya Arulpragasam is engaged to Warner Music Group heir and guitarist for “The Exit”, Benjamin Brewer.  Let’s give the cute couple a high five!

Please Do Look Back

Today the new Bob Dylan album, Tell Tale Signs , a collection of rare and unreleased material from 1989-2006 was released to rave reviews.  The album is part of the Bootleg Series, Volume 8 and received a glowing write-up with a four and a half star rating from Rolling Stone Magazine.

A bearded man with a preference for plaids sits next to me at the office.  His name is Mitch Blank.  If you watched the closing credits for Martin Scorsese’s No Direction Home, you might have chuckled at his credit: “Hypnotist Collector”, a reference to lyrics in “She Belongs to Me”.  The credit is appropriate because Blank is afterall, “THE world’s premier Dylan archivist”.  Mitch Blank was instrumental in selecting the songs that appeared on the (three) discs that comprise Tell Tale Signs and he is mentioned in the liner notes (pg.s 4-5).

Getty Images is the proud distributor of Bob Dylan imagery spanning the musician’s career from the late 1950’s to the present.  You may notice some material in the lightbox is from “Blank Archives”.  That’s Mitch too!

Blank also consulted on the recently published, A Freewheelin’ Time, written by Dylan’s one time girlfriend, Suze Rotolo.  You know her as the gal walking down Jones Street in the West Village under Dylan’s Arm on the Cover of 1963’s Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.  What better time than now to take these two works in tandem?

Xtina Truely Outrageous

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Christina Aguilera arrived at the Esquire House Hollywood Hills’ “Rock The Vote” event looking fantastically unreal in blunt bangs, dramatic eyeliner and neon fuschia lipstick. We’ve seen Xtina try on many looks over the years and I thought she had really she’d really hit her stride with the 40’s/50’s sex kitten look of mid 2007, but she does the 80’s inspired rave look well. What do you think?  Too much or good fun?

As Old As The Sands Themselves: Hysterical Fans

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Nick and his brother Joe of The Jonas Brothers made a Jonas Brothers sandwich for one lucky fan at TRL studios yesterday. Everyone knows adolescents are capable of many things including being poltergeist magnets . They are also capable of focusing a tremendous amount of energy and imagination on an object of desire. You’ve seen the footage of The Beatles at Shea Stadium. Can you relate to these hysterical fans? I had a locket with Michael Nesmith ’s photo in the 6th grade, but that is as far as it went. Who is your teen obsession?

Check out fans: now and then
