Kiera Knightley created a loose black ribbon bow-tie for the press conference of ‘The Dutchess’ during the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. The look borrows closely Michael Landon’s costume from the television series, ‘The Little House On The Prairie’.

Fashion Icon Bianca Jagger rocked the same look dancing at Elaine’s in New York City in 1978, and again walking the streets of London in 1979.

Toronto International Film Festival: Stripped Down

Today is day seven of The Toronto International Film Festival and the Oscar buzz that traditionally begins in Yorkville has already rung in the Academy’s ears.  The mania around anticipating Oscar success is said to have died down this year, which may make lend a certain degree of purity to the viewing experience.  Regardless of a perceived downgrade in hype, the festival is teeming with celebrities, and a few of them stopped by the Getty Images Studio for a portrait.  See our favorites here.

Hyped films include The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel-Wood, Rachel Getting Married  by Jonathan Demme starring Anne Hathaway, The Secret Life of Bees with Dakota Fanning (so grown up!) and The Duchess starring Kiera Knightly.

One documentary in the schedule, Paris, Not France, caused a little bit of cheap commotion when Paris Hilton’s people pressured the festival into reducing the number of screenings of the film.   Adria Petty (daughter of Tom Petty) made the low budget film chronicling the life and times of Paris Hilton in 2006 and while the commotion surrounding the screening indicated that there is unflattering dirt to be dished, it may have simply been a publicity maneuver.

Keira Knightley and her “close friend” Rupert Friend got cozy at the after party following the 2008 Elle Style Awards in London. Seeing each other for about a year, the on-the –down-low couple have yet to walk the red-carpet or acknowledge their relationship in the press.  Would you like to see Kiera proclaim her Rupert love officially? Discuss!

“Atonement” finally opens in New York and L.A. this weekend – FINALLY. We’ve been hearing about this movie for far too long, from the myriad of film fest premieres to the openings around the world in the last few months. It’s been a constant barrage of some combination of the following: “Oh my God, it’s sooooooo good,” “Oh my God, James McAvoy is sooooooooo good, he’s like super-short but totally amazing,” “Oh my God, there’s this insanely long tracking shot that will blow your mind Oh my God,” and “Jesus Mary and Joseph, it’s like an instant classic and WOW – the costumes.”

All I know is that Keira Knightley is a fine specimen of movie star godliness, and that looking at the above picture it is possible that James McAvoy is actually shorter than Tom Cruise. Also, Atonement weaves a rich tale of the intersection between gender, memory, and perception – the gentle, soft-focus historiography mirrors the blurring of identity in wartime landscapes. This is all exemplified by Knightley’s extraordinary lips.
