Penelope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Taraji P. Henson and Evan Rachel Wood all wore white to the 81st Annual Academy Awards held at Kodak Theatre on February 22, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. What might have influenced this trend?

Teal It Like It Is

In January 2009 alone, the color teal has been splashed across the runways at Valentino and Strenesse to red carpets worldwide.   Evan Rachel Wood wore a very deep shade of the watery hue at the SAG Awards this weekend. Elisha Cuthbert, Alyson Hannigan, Mary-Louise Parker and model Lena Gercke also embraced the flattering color in recent weeks.

Teal is described by Glidden as a color that indicates stability and resistance to change.  If you like the color, you are optimistic and trusting, you have a high degree of faith and hope.  Does it make sense that we are seeing it everywhere in uncertain times?  Absolutely.   People who lived through the 1980’s are reluctant to embrace the color that was omnipresent two decades ago, but today’s teal is deeper and highly textured.

Pantone picked Mimosa as the color of 2009 and it flooded red carpets and runways a year before that, so is it safe to bet that this calming shade will be the color of 2010?  It’s a little early to make predictions but if the rest of the year is anything like the past month, it’s worth gambling on.  Get the blue/greens here.

The SAG Awards brought all the Crayola colors out of their box last night.  Diane Lane, Claire Daines, Jane Krakowski and Christina Hendricks wore the most popular color, red.  Eva Longoria was a solitary coral orange.  Yellow wasn’t as big as it was last year with only two actresses, Marissa Tomei and Viola Davis representing it.  Green and teal were huge (ok huge for greens)!  Christina Applegate, Evan Rachel Wood, Dana Delaney, Melissa Leo and Alison Pil looked lovely in shades of emerald.  Only a few metallics and  memorable whites walked the red carpet this year.  Teri Hatcher wowed in white while Rosario Dawson and Emily Blunt glittered in silver.  Black of course was worn by a fair share of SAG attendees. If you wanted to stick out from the crowd it seemed like the easiest way to do so was to wear a non floor-length gown.  Only a handful of women bared knees last night including Katrina Bowden, Katie Holmes and Tina Fey. Who was best dressed?  I honestly can’t decide.   See the whole rainbow here.

Evan Rachel Wood Thaws Out

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

What a difference a month makes!  Actress Evan Rachel Wood attended the 18th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards at the Museum of Finance last night in New York City.  We wrote about Wood’s sudden transformation into a Goth Diva in April, undoubtedly catalyzed by her relationship with musician Marilyn Manson.  Last night the young actress had shed her goth semblances but has maintained a lovely retro glamour.  Satin is her thing!  What do you think of the lighter side of Evan Rachel Wood?

Neuroses Still Good For A Laugh

Skimming through the lovely WireImage website today, I discovered an amusing gallery of on-set stills from Woody Allen’s new flick. It seems the neurotic aging Jewish man paired with twentysomething Lolita formula is solidly intact. Also, Allen is back in New York!!!!! We knew he’d deal with the trade unions eventually…

Transformation Complete

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Evan Rachel Wood premiered her deeper commitment to the “dark side” at the screening for The Life Before Her Eyes hosted by Cinema Society and Nicole Miller at the IFC Center. She has been undergoing a subtle but steady transformation from fresh scrubbed blonde to Vampy mistress of the dark since her courtship with Marilyn Manson began in 2007. Her current look is perhaps closest to that of Dita Von Teese, who divorced Manson after a year of matrimony. Woods’ new hair color may be related to her role opposite Micky Rourke in The Wrestler, but the change is in keeping with her goth slant. How quickly will she dump this look in the off chance her relationship with Manson ends? Priscella Presley went back to her natural color upon divorcing Elvis after years of being matching bottle black and never went back.
