Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Beth Ditto attend the Christmas illuminations launch of BHV at Bazar de l’Hotel de Ville on November 17, 2009 in Paris, France.  Beth Ditto personifies the notion of a “Brick House”  as The Commodores describe so well:

She’s a brick—-house
Mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick—-house
The lady’s stacked and that’s a fact,
ain’t holding nothing back.

Deyn Demures

Agyness Deyn in all her raven splendor, was seen on the streets of Manhattan in feathered lower lids, creating a permanent look of coyness.  Squint your eyes and she is averting her gaze, a gesture that is universally recognized as a signal of  sweet submission.  Are the days of aggessive feminine warpaint coming to a close?  Lily Allen wore innocent reverse raccoon eyes this summer, projecting wide eyed dolly-like innocence.   Below, 1970 era models fake a similar gesture with fashion glasses  by French designer, Courreges.  See more eye makeup affectation here.

Actress Renee Zellweger arrives at ELLE’s 16th Annual Women In Hollywood Event at the Four Seasons Hotel on October 19, 2009 in Beverly Hills, California.

Color coordination seems to be the thing these days and there are a few benefits to suggesting a color theme to a parties attendees.  Photo ops (especially group photo ops) look great and it gives the event goers some focus. Last night at ELLE’s 16th Annual Women In Hollywood Event at the Four Seasons Hotel, most everyone played along, except for Diane Kruger, who wore blue!  We gather the dress code was: reds, nudes, silver or neutrals.  Here are our picks for the best dressed in each catagory.

Best Red: Renee Zellweger, runners up Amber Rose and Robin Tunney

Matching All Around For Mr Fox

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Eternally young musician, Jarvis Cocker shows some silver hairs attending the Opening Gala for The Times BFI London Film Festival afterparty for the premiere of Fantastic Mr. Fox held at Saatchi Gallery on October 14, 2009 in London, England.  His son, Albert (left) is a miniature version of his father in Jarvis’ signature blazer, floppy hairdo and bold eyeglasses.  Cocker composed songs for  Fantastic Mr Fox, and plays the part of Petey in this Wes Anderson adaptation of the Roald Dahl story of the same name.

Director, Wes Anderson is stylistically embodied in Mr Fox, himself, wearing a carmel-colored cord suit for the press conference.  You may, in fact see Mr. Fox and his furry friends wearing staples from Andersons closet.  Bow-ties, striped neck ties and a sense of formalism are at play in the directors wardrobe and in his characters costumes.  Anderson collaborates with his stable of preferred actors, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Willem DaFoe, Adrian Brody and Owen Wilson for a story that was at one time criticized for its socialist subtext.  Known for his obsessive eye for aesthetic detail,  Anderson has undoubtedly  lavished attention on the production design of this very different film. Fantastic Mr Fox will most likely delight our eyes.   See what wardrobe items might be borrowed from Anderson’s closet here.

McQueen: Tales From The Dark Side

Models walk the runway during Alexander McQueen Pret a Porter show as part of the Paris Womenswear Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010 at Palais Omnisports de Bercy on October 6, 2009.

Amidst the reining fashion week trends of  gossamer neutrals and strappy goth dominance, Alexander McQueens collection for spring 2010 speaks of an altered reality.  His presentation using video projections of the runway and audience conjured the future present world of surveillance, and virtual technology.  These are familiar themes in todays culture and we aren’t strangers to them, but the grandiose execution and restrained eye of the designer breathe new life into an aesthetic that blossomed a decade ago.

An infinite hall  of mirrors reflected on the while polished floor as distorted silhouettes made contact with earth.  The models  looked like frightening butterflys or or walking fractals, many looked inhuman with an enhanced sense of symmetry.  The punishing hoove-like shoes that we spoke of yesterday and hornlike hair buns were standouts, setting the shape of alien beings.  Are you afraid of this place that is just as real but not as brightly lit?

The new diva move requires quite a bit of flexibility and is not for the faint of heart. Rhinna, Ciara and Beyonce bend over backwards for their fans in their live shows.
