Editing at Coachella: 62,495 pictures, one amazing experience
Coachella is a three-day music and arts festival which takes place annually in Indio, California. Indio is about 130 miles from Los Angeles, deep in the desert. Unfortunately, Day 1 didn’t feel so desert like with all the rain, but Days 2 and 3 were perfect outdoor festival weather.
Between seven editors onsite working 15 hours a day, we handled 12 photographers, who were shooting all bands on all five stages, plus seven additional paid assignments. We downloaded 258 Gbs of images, looked through 62,495 pictures and put up 4,574 on WireImage and Getty Images in those three days.
Some highlights of the festival included working in the press tent — which was located in the VIP area, right next to the main stage. Not only could we hear all the bands on the main stage, but being so close to the action, managing editor Trixie Trextor was able to take a break and pop out to catch Radiohead for her 20th time!! And, of course, being in the VIP area means celebrities all around. To name a few: Jared Leto, Vanessa Hudgens, Emile Hirsch, Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Gerard Butler, Lily Donaldson, Paris Hilton, Kellan Lutz, Joe Manganiello and Emma Watson.
Of course, the biggest surprise of the festival happened on the last night when Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre performed with a hologram of Tupac who was shot and killed more than 15 years ago.
Editor’s note: Jennifer Foley, is a Getty Images Field Editor based in Los Angeles, California. This was Jen’s third year working the Coachella Festival (lucky!!). Included with this post are some of her favorite images from the event… Her favorite band performing there was Bon Iver.
