Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography winner, David Gillanders completes his project “Glasglow”

February 15, 2011 | By Jamie Penney | News, Photography, Photojournalism

David Gillanders, winner of a Getty Images Editorial Photography Grant has recently completed his project, where he documents violence and knife crime in Glasgow, Scotland.

In his summary, Gillanders writes, “The Getty Images Grant gave me the opportunity to re-visit my work on knife crime in Glasgow, and explore a different approach to present the same story. My aim with this project, from its inception, was to make people aware of the savage and brutal violence which is part of everyday life in my home city. I had already spent several years making a photo essay which attempted to get as close to the issue as possible, however I took a step back from this and tried to make a complementary series of images which were less graphic in content, but equally powerful.”
