In replying to Bob Smith's concern that Flickr is for the non-professional photographer to showcase there imagery. In fact there are many professionals like myself using Flickr to promote and share and showcase imagery. It is a good place to have millions of people judge and comment on your photography and personally I think there are many non-pro photographers on Flickr that will give most professional out there a run for their money. Many of the photographers are looser, less uptight and experimental in their outlook as a result of not sticking to rules and not having the stress of having to please clients. As Todd McVey says "a great photo is a great photo"

It's a good thing you people are doing over there, I really love your creativities. To improve on your work , there is need for more beautiful images that will affect people.

As upsetting and painful as it is for professional photographers who have poured their lives into photography, to face heavy competition from amateurs, with little or no training, was inevitable that this would happen. There's no stopping it, but pros must embrace it, and find new ways to be profitable.

Photography is now bigger than ever, and available to all, due to the advances of modern digital equipment. I know, I'm one of them, and I love taking pictures with my DSLR. Who knows, perhaps my own shots will be included here some day.

I'm happy to see more content, and more options from Getty. As a creative director, I buy from Getty often, but cost cutting has made our jobs more difficult. This tool may help.

I have great respect for pro photographers, and will always prefer to hire them first. The current economic climate and changes in technology have made it tough for us all, and I feel their pain. They must re-invent and learn new methods, or risk losing out altogether.

My 2 cents!

Hi Jose,

The folks at Flickr and Getty Images have joined forces to build a platform to create a first class collection of royalty free, and rights managed photographs.

Getty Images has an experienced team of editors who are scouring the Flickrverse for public photographs they feel would complement The Flickr Collection on Getty Images. Once the editors find photos they feel are suitable or a licensing request is made for one of the images, they will be contacting the photographer who published it via FlickrMail.

If you have further questions about the collection, don't miss our FAQ located here: http://www.flickr.com/help/gettyimages/.

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

We have some great discussions about how images are selected for the collection in our Flickr discussion forums. Specifically here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/gettyimagesonflickr/discuss/72157616130924800/

Some tips and tricks are:
*Make sure your photos are marked Public in your photostream
*Make sure your images are tagged appropriately
*Make sure your images are at least 3 megapixels
