Butterflies A Plenty!

It is fascinating to see the in-depth coverage of wildlife and nature on Flickr.

Let’s take butterflies for example. There are thousands of Flickr groups sharing butterfly images. Why do I think this is so exciting? Because this means thousands of butterfly species from all over the world are being photographed by people with a passion for the little creatures!

This is a great source of imagery for all the textbook publishers worldwide – so keep shooting! And add the name of the species in the keywords along with locations and include the Latin name in the title whenever possible.

And of course it’s not only butterflies we’re looking for, but all wildlife and nature out there.

Blake Lively at the photocall for ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee’ at the 59th Berlin Film Festival and Rachel Bilson at the Brian Reyes after party during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2009, both made bold pairings, wearing brown shoes with black tights.

Penelope Cruz switched it up, matching brown tights with black shoes for the Film Independent’s 2009 Spirit Awards. Jennifer Aniston matched navy tights with brown shoes for the Paris photocall of ‘Marley & Me’.

Ginnifer Goodwin pushed it even further wearing a black dress, navy tights and gray heels to her visit to the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’.

How To Pick Up James Franco

Other than hanging out at Columbia University’s Dodge Hall or stalking the streets of the West Village where Howl is being filmed, Criterion has provided another venue through which to access James Franco (sort of).  The sensitive actor/writer/artist/student has listed his top ten movie titles from Criterion (he has every title in their collection!).  With this list in mind you might want to re-strategize your “accidental” path-crossing with Mr. Franco.  Perhaps you will have luck at The Film Society of Lincon Center, Film Forum or Anthology Film Archives.

When a Kiss is Not Just a Kiss

Rumors of marital trouble abound, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz made a very public display of affection at the podium of the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards. Might they be too young to remember the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards kiss between Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley? Hoping the kiss does not share the same fate.

Britney Spears shared a kiss with Madonna at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2004 Britney would marry and annul childhood friend Jason Alexander and announce her engagement to Kevin Federline.

Florals Forecasted

It’s officially spring, if you hadn’t noticed, and while the eastern seaboard is teased by the occasional warm day it hasn’t really been temperate enough to wear something that screams spring.  Rather than braving the lambish half of March  in a fuchsia miniskirt, how about wearing a bit of floral?  You needn’t go bare legged.  Florals have been popular over the past few springs with the return to ladylike decorum on the runways and on the streets they will most likely continue to fill shop windows and perhaps your closet if you don’t think they are sickeningly sweet.  Last September we saw catwalks flooded with floral chiffons in anticipation for this fertile season.  Be inspired by florals in fashion through the ages here.

It’s our two week birthday!

It was just a short two weeks ago today that we launched the Flickr Collection. The response has been great, and in that time we’ve more than doubled the size of the collection and logged nearly 100 sales! (The images in this post are among the recent sellers.) There are images of everything from street corners to castles, puppies to portraits and even (and we’re not quite sure why) underpants full of spaghetti!

And we’re still in high gear! We’re adding more new, fresh, creative images every day. Plus we’ve got some big plans ahead for an even bigger splash in the next few months.

Where Were They Then? Charo

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Charo was doing her thing at The Producer’s VIP Reception at The Winter Music Conference at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa on March 25, 2009 in Miami Beach, Florida.  She has been doing this sort of kitschy Spanish Sex kitten act since the 1960’s and it has neither changed nor lost it’s impact.  She has moved from novelty to kitsch to irony by staying exactly the same.

María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Moquiere de les Esperades Santa Ana Romanguera y de la Najosa Rasten, better known as Charo may be as old as 68 but she looks better than women half her age.  While she is a caricature of sorts, known to wear something that is ruffled, feathered, sequined, strapless or otherwise outrageous, the Spanish performer is actually a very accomplished guitarist.  She has been named “Best Flamenco Guitarist” twice by Guitar Player Magazine’s readers poll.
