Distracted At London’s Fashion Week

The presentation was the most outstanding aspect of two collections shown at London’s Fashion Week for Spring-Summer 2009. Antoni&Alison set up a kitschy – tropical scrim and spotlit models in turn. All the while a schmaltzy (I’m assuming by the pencil thin moustache) singer crooned converting the runway into a sleazy nightclub spectacle. The design duo is known for their playful approach to fashion and this display confirmed just that. Regardless of the tropicalia gluttony, the ensembles felt a little… eh forgettable? Stella McCartney put her models on wires for an effect that came off a little like a Top Model challenge and we can’t really blame Stella for that can we? Maybe we relish in subtlety a bit too much, but these attempts to push boundaries in collection presentation distracted from the the clothing itself.
