There’s a striking similarity in the way our England team is playing now compared to the England team of 1966 – both started off the World Cup tournament by playing some pretty ordinary football. But, everybody knows, you can’t win the World Cup in the first few weeks of the tournament, so things are really starting to heat up in Germany now we’re through to play Portugal…

This picture shows the tension of the match with the stifling heat and Ecuador’s defence all thrown into the mix. I shot this on a 400mm lens, 640th of a second at 2.8, which was perfect to capture this particular shot, but would have been a bit risky if Rooney had actually managed to score.
