Brazil Training Session, Paffrather Street Stadium: Ronaldo Signing Autographs

June 26, 2006 | By Stuart Franklin | Creative

It’s not very often in a training session that the best pictures are made before the players step onto the pitch but today was one of those rare days. Ronaldo looked very happy as well as physically fit and from what I could see there wasn’t any sign of over-eating! He was joined in the dugout by Coach Parreira, Kaka and Julio Cesar. They where all obviously sharing a few jokes judging by all the laughter going on.

To me, the better pictures from a training session are the ones that don’t just show action but something of the characters involved. We can have the action pictures from a match where there is passion and emotion in the whole event, but the atmosphere in a training session is quite different – there are no winners or losers and hopefully no pain! So what I try to show is another aspect of the players that is friendlier and more relaxed. The Brazilian team has this ability to raise their game when it really matters and I believe that this is partly due to the relaxed way in which they train. They know the World Cup is a month of matches and so conserve some off their focus and energy for when the games really matter.
