Brazil training session, 19 June 2006, Paffrather Street Stadium: A Day Of Contrast

June 20, 2006 | By Stuart Franklin | Creative

Today was a day of contrast, from all the sound and atmosphere of the stadium in Munich with its 66,000 cheering fans yesterday, to the small sleepy town of Bergisch Gladbach where less than 100 media attended the Brazilian training session. The pitch was soaked from the heavy rain and the players where only able to train on part of it. Even the team was different from the one we had seen yesterday. None of those who had played at the match were training today – only Robinho and goal scorer, Fred. The one thing that hadn’t changed was the warm, friendly welcome of the town folk. The German people are very hospitable and have been nothing but helpful.

Without the stars, the training seemed very subdued. The one moment of real humour came when Robinho had just played a shot and the water sprinkler popped up and started to make the players wet. As if we hadn’t had enough rain today!
